Tornado risk over northwestern Ontario as storms, rain threaten the Prairies
Environment Canada has issued tornado warnings for parts of northwestern Ontario as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to move through the region.
The storms are expected to bring strong winds, hail and torrential rain, and there is a risk of tornadoes in some areas.
Environment Canada has issued tornado warnings for the following areas:
- Ignace
- Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation
- Whitefish Bay
- Kenora
The storms are expected to move through the region this afternoon and evening, and Environment Canada is urging residents to be prepared for severe weather.
Here are some tips to stay safe during a tornado:
- Take shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of your home.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- If you are outside, seek shelter in a sturdy building or lie down in a ditch and cover your head with your hands.

In addition to the tornado warnings, Environment Canada has also issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of the Prairies, including:
- Southwestern Manitoba
- Southeastern Saskatchewan
- Western Manitoba
