Kentucky Woman Drowns in Lake Powell Flash Flood
Saturday's Storm Brings Tragedy to Camping Family
A Kentucky woman drowned Saturday afternoon after her family was swept away by a flash flood in Iceberg Canyon at Lake Powell in Utah. The victim has been identified as Heather Rutledge, 43, from Louisville, Kentucky.
Beautiful Weekend Turns Tragic
The tragedy occurred during a weekend camping trip that had started out with a perfect combination of beautiful scenery and cool weather. The Rutledge family intended to hike a slot canyon, but decided against it due to the approaching storm, which quickly turned deadly.
The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for the area, but it came too late for the Rutledges. The floodwaters swept through their campsite with little warning, carrying away the family members.
Authorities are still investigating the incident, and no further details are available at this time.
