54-Year-Old Former Journalist Accused of Soliciting Sex From Underage Girls
Christopher Morelli of Centre County, Pennsylvania, Was Arrested in December
WEB Investigators have charged 54-year-old Christopher Morelli of Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania, with one felony count each of unlawful contact with a minor-sexual offense and criminal use of a communication facility.
Alleged Contact with Undercover FBI Agent
According to the investigation, Morelli allegedly began communicating with an undercover FBI agent posing as a 14-year-old girl in July 2022. During the exchanges, Morelli allegedly expressed sexual interest in the girl and attempted to arrange a meeting.
Current Position as Newspaper Editor
Morelli is currently the managing editor of the Centre County Gazette. He was promoted to this position in June 2023 after serving as a reporter and editor for several years.
Contact Allegedly Made by Female Victim
Following Morelli's initial arrest in mid-December, investigators were contacted by a female who claimed to have been solicited by Morelli when she was a minor. The woman's claims are currently under investigation.
The charges against Morelli are a reminder of the dangers of online communication. Predators often pose as children or teenagers in order to lure victims into sexual conversations. Parents and caregivers should be aware of these potential risks and monitor their children's online activities.
