President Joe Biden ordered the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan over the advice of some of his senior-most advisers in the Pentagon and State. The fact is President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump were both eager to withdraw US Troops from Afghanistan and end what Biden referred to as the "forever war."
Lloyd Doggett of Texas on July 2 became the first elected Democrat to call for Biden to withdraw. The following day Biden met with a group of Democratic lawmakers ahead of a planned trip to Israel.
A small but vocal faction of party members urged the president to withdraw from the race or consider doing so in time for a replacement to be chosen.
