Christopher Bell Wins Rain-Shortened Coca-Cola 600
NASCAR Playoff Race Ends Early Due to Weather
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - Christopher Bell earned the biggest win of his career with a victory in the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 on Monday, giving the third-generation driver his first NASCAR Cup Series win of the season.
Bell, who drives the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, took the lead with a pass on Ryan Blaney with 26 laps to go in the scheduled 400-lap event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
A lightning delay of more than three hours preceded a heavy rainstorm that forced NASCAR to red-flag the race, halting the race for good with 102 laps remaining.
The victory is the fourth time in Coca-Cola 600 history that rain has prevented the race from being completed. Bell joins a list of winners of rain-shortened 600s that includes Dale Earnhardt (1993), Tony Stewart (2009) and Denny Hamlin (2015).
