Chainsaw Man's Early Design Revealed
Denji's Prototype Design Spotted at Fujimoto Exhibition
Fans of the popular manga and anime series Chainsaw Man were treated to a rare glimpse of the series' early concept art at the recent Tatsuki Fujimoto Exhibition. Among the sketches on display was an intriguing prototype design for the series' protagonist, Denji.
The prototype design, which was originally shared on Fujimoto's now-deleted Twitter account, features a noticeably different look for Denji. His signature chainsaw head is replaced with a more mechanical, robotic-looking head. The design also includes several cybernetic enhancements, such as a metal arm and leg.
While the prototype design ultimately didn't make it into the final version of Chainsaw Man, it provides an interesting glimpse into the evolution of the series. It's clear that Fujimoto experimented with several different design concepts before settling on the iconic look that fans know today.
The Tatsuki Fujimoto Exhibition, which ran from April 29th to June 19th, 2022, in Tokyo, Japan, showcased a wide range of the artist's work, including original sketches, illustrations, and storyboards from his various manga series, including Chainsaw Man, Fire Punch, and Look Back.
The exhibition was a huge success, attracting thousands of fans. It provided a unique opportunity for fans to get an up-close look at the creative process behind some of their favorite manga series.
